1. Answer the questions that follow the article (there are 6 questions).
2. Now it's time to find an image. Go to Google or a search engine of your choice. Type in the celebrity's name and "head shot" (without the quotes and press enter to begin your search. Your image needs to be of their head and shoulders only, no more of their body. If more of their body is in the image it will be too difficult for you to paint. Your image needs to be at least 500 x 500 pixels in size.
3. Once you have found the right image to use, right click over the image and save it to the desktop. We'll use that in a few minutes. Next, you need to find the contact for the website you are on. It may be under "Contact Us" and it may be as easy as filling out a form. You may have to search under "Terms and Conditions" or "Privacy" to find a information about Copyright. There should be an email address there that you can use.
You will copy that email address. Open your personal email account. If you do not have one you will need to set one up for free. Start a new email. Paste the email address into the To bar. Your Subject should be "Permission to use image from website". Your paragraph should read:
"Hello. My name is (your first and last name) and I am a student at Tinkham High School in Westland, MI. I would like to ask permission to use the attached image for an art project for school.
Thank you for your time."
Attach the image you saved to the desktop.
4. When your email is typed, call me over to check it out to make sure you have included everything. That way you can get the grade for the email. Now you may begin your project.
5. Look back at your Color Mixing Experiment sheet and choose one new color that you created. Something not too light and not too dark.
6. After you have chosen your custom color, get the paints out and mix that color again. You will need a good quantity of it for your painting and to make the other colors in your color scale. After you have mixed and made each of the 5 values for your color, paint your monochromatic value scale.

7. Your next step is to find all the different values in your image and label them 1-5 to match your value scale. 1 is the lightest value (almost white) and 5 is the darkest value (almost black). Take your time to do this part. You are essentially creating a paint-by-numbers here. If you do this part well your painting will be easy. |
9. When you are finished, make sure your name and hour is on the back of your work. If it needs to go on the drying rack to dry, find and empty shelf on the drying rack. If it is dry and ready to turn in, put it on the turn in table in the section for your hour.
