Value Scale and line techniques
Value: Value describes the brightness or darkness of color. A gradient is a series of values from darkest to lightest.

Watch the video below for a demonstration on blending, hatching and cross hatching on a blended scale. Stippling is not part of this video. Stippling is just like hatching and cross hatching except uses dots instead of lines.
Your finished value scale should look like my example below. Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional practice. Sorry, the image is a little blurry. Notice that the hatching lines do not cross. The cross hatching lines do cross. The stippling is made of many dots. The closer together the lines and dots, the darker the value. For the "Create your own technique" scale I chose squiggly lines as my lines for value.
